Cultivating Athletic Spirituality

by Art Canales, D.Min.
Office of Youth Ministry
Diocese of Austin

There are three passions in my life: (1) love for God, (2) love for my family, and (3) love for athletics and/or physical activity. The latter category is the focus of this essay. • December 2, 2006 NCCYS hosted a Symposium on Sports and Spirituality in Las Vegas featuring keynotes from Rick Gailllardetz, Clark Power, and more. Additionally, there were workshops from athletic ministry leaders from throughout the United States as well as excellent opportunities to network with athletic colleagues. Over one hundred people attended the symposium. View pictures from this very successful event. The next symposium is at The National Conference on Catholic Youth Ministry, December 6, 2008 in Cleveland.
  • NCCYS past board chair Len DiPaul joined Dr. Edward T. Hastings and Sharon Fuqua Retif to publish More Than a Game: Stories, Prayers, and Reflections for the Student Athlete.
